Methods of heat transfer
Heat exchange between objects is a from of energy transfer
The three methods of heat transfer are conduction, convection and radiation
Conduction
It is the transfer of internal energy through the diffusion and collision of particles within a body. The internal energy can be known as kinetic and potential energy. Conduction takes place in solids, liquids, plasmas and gases. The heat flows from a hotter to a colder body.
Convection
It is the transferring of heat from one place to another through fluids (or liquids). In liquids and gases it is the main form of heat transfer. There are internal and external flows which can possibly be counted as being part of convection. Internal flows occurs when a fluid is enclosed by a solid. External flow occurs when a fluid extends without a solid surface.
Radiation
Thermal radiation is when electromagnetic waves get emitted from matter that has a temperature that is larger than zero. It consists of kinetic energy and it is the conversion of thermal energy into electromagnetic energy.
