The worldwide energy consumption is projected to increase by more than 40 percent by 2035. Economic output and improved standards of living will likely put added pressure on energy supplies. In China alone, for example the demand is expected to increase by 75 percent by 2035.

This is a problem, because we are dependant on fossil fuels, which are a limited resource (not renewable).

Even if the use of renewables triples over the next 25 years, the world is likely still to depend on fossil fuels for at least 50 percent of its energy needs.

Most people don’t feel connected to this reality unless the price of gas at the pump goes up or there are lines at the gas station.

Fossil fuels also cause global warming, which leads to extreme weather conditions, extinction of species, less living space/ habitat and also has an impact on agriculture (our food).

-> other sources for energy have issues too:

- renewables are still widely unexplored and because of this still very expensive.

- nuclear energy is dangerous and creates waste, which we do not have the capacities to store in unimited amounts.
