Energy chains in nature, technology and everyday life

Energy chains are ways of how energy transfers from one form to another.

Energy chains in nature:

  • A fruit falling from a tree: Potential energy → kinetic energy + heat and sound energy.

  • When a mass is dropped from a height gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy as the mass falls and then to sound and heat as it hits the ground.

Energy chains in technology:

  • A light bulb: Electrical energy → Heat and light energy

  • When a light bulb is on, electrical energy is converted to heat and light energy.

Energy chains in everyday life:

  • Burning coal: Chemical energy → Heat and light energy

  • Burning coal releases Heat and light energy.
